Information For Those With Food Allergies

Hello there! If you have any food allergies, please read this page before purchasing a Mystery Chocolate subscription. Or, if you have received a gift subscription and you have a food allergy, please read this before trying any chocolate.

First and foremost, if you have any food allergies (especially serious allergies), our blanket recommendation is to avoid purchasing a Mystery Chocolate subscription in the interest of maximum safety.

If you have received a subscription as a gift, and you would like to cancel your subscription or transfer it to someone else, you can contact us here and we’ll take care of you.

However, if you have minor allergies and you would like to continue with a Mystery Chocolate subscription, please follow these recommendations:

  1. Assume that any of the main allergens are present, at least in trace amounts, in every chocolate bar: milk, wheat/gluten, peanuts, tree nuts, and soybeans. If any of these ingredients are present as included ingredients in any of the chocolate bars in any given Mystery Chocolate box, it will be noted on the letter in the box. However, any of these allergens may be included in trace amounts in any bar.
  2. If you are allergic to any other things outside of the top 8 food allergens (milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soybean), you can always submit guesses before trying the bars to see the main inclusions. However, note that this may not show any ingredients that might be included in trace amounts (from shared equipment, etc).
  3. If you would like to request a replacement of any chocolate bars that you might receive that contain an ingredient to which you are allergic, please contact us. We will replace any bars that contain those specific ingredients with something else. Note that (a) the guessing will not apply to the replaced bars and (b) this will not apply to ingredients that might be included in trace amounts.

To summarize, if you have any allergies that are severe enough that even trace amounts cause reactions, we strongly advise to stay away. However, if you only have minor allergies and you understand that there is some risk involved and plan to adjust your experience with Mystery Chocolate accordingly (see the previous 3 recommendations), then please use caution and be very careful as you enjoy the chocolate.
