August 2017
Posted on September 7, 2017
It’s time to reveal our August 2017 selections!
In this box, one bar was a simpleton, another bar had quite the filling, and the third bar incorporated a delicious French dessert.
Here’s how it all played out:
Bar A
No frills here — just dark chocolate and one inclusion, a gentle flavor that lightens up the chocolate and adds a bit of sweetness. It’s a fairly basic bar, so we’re really just itching to go ahead and show it.
So we will.
59% Dark Chocolate with Orange by Dagoba
Great bar by Dagoba. These guys have been around for a while, so they don’t get quite the hype that some of the newer, almost trendier chocolate makers get, but that doesn’t mean they don’t make great stuff!
Bar B
This bar has one main differentiating factor: the delicious creamy filling on the inside. Essentially, it’s combination of match-made-in-heaven flavors (one of them a nut, the other a fruit) and we found it way too easy to finish off the whole bar.
As far as the difficulty of this bar is concerned, it was probably the easiest bar in this box to guess. The fruit and nut flavors are strong, and fairly recognizable. Although, that’s not to say that everyone got it right… 🙂
Cherry Almond Allemande by Morkes Chocolates
Delicious, wasn’t it? This is one of those indulgent bars, so we anticipate this one to be highly re-ordered.
Oh, and a quick tip: try it refrigerated!
Bar C
This bar included some of the best milk chocolate we’ve ever had along with a difficult to detect inclusion — definitely out of the norm. And, like Bar B, it was extremely easy to finish off. (Don’t leave this bar unattended. There’s an extremely good chance it won’t be there when you come back.)
The flavor in this bar comes from a popular French dessert. Let’s see what it was now:
Milk Chocolate Crème Brûlée Bar by Artisan Du Chocolat
What we really like about Artisan du Chocolat is they haven’t completely ignored milk chocolate like most of the craft chocolate makers nowadays. Actually, on the back of this bar they put it perfectly:
“The revolution for fine cocoa has spawned dark chocolate snobs whilst milk chocolate has taken a kneecapping at the hands of those who view it is an ersatz of real chocolate. We believe that artisan milk chocolate can be pretty darn good […]”
You go, Artisan du Chocolat. We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
And that’s a wrap on the August 2017 Mystery Chocolate Box!
We hope you loved it. Exciting things coming soon 🙂
Got something to say?
